Job Description


The function is responsible for providing professional effective legal support services, assistance and advice in all aspects of BMW’s operations to all BMW’s divisions, departments and subsidiaries to enable BMW to achieve its overall objectives.

The successful incumbent’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that governance, compliance and adherence with BMW standard terms and conditions and policies across customer, supplier, marketing, distribution, dealers and financial services business units.
  • Have a sound understanding of laws and regulations impacting BMW SA and the industry including (but not limited to):
    • Consumer law
    • Data privacy law
    • Competition law
    • Intellectual property law
    • Company law
    • Cyber law
    • Labour law
  • Managing the preparation, negotiation and finalisation of new and updated agreements forms and precedents, contracts and tender documents or other documents of legal or quasi-legal consequence in compliance with BMW group policies, applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with general litigation briefing external attorneys and counsel in a cost-effective and timeous manner with minimal interference on BMW’s operations.
  • Liaison with key stakeholders such as attorneys and outside counsel, NAAMSA Legal Forum, government departments, BMW AG legal and other applicable departments and stakeholders within and outside of BMW SA (Pty) Ltd.
  • Keeping abreast of new and proposed legislation and legal development and supporting compliance therewith by the BMW Group including conducting business impact assessments of new legislation and advising business to mitigate risks.
  • Assisting with new business projects and deal structuring.
  • Commenting on new bills and other forms of legislation through strategic forums.
  • Assisting and managing various company secretarial duties for BMW South Africa (Pty) Ltd and BMW Financial Services.
  • Cross-functional and cross-border working capability across all BMW Group companies.

Education & Competencies

  • A minimum of BA/B.C om LLB / LLB or equivalent law degree from a recognised University and an admitted Attorney or Advocate with completion of Professional Legal Training (as applicable).


  • Minimum 6 years of experience subsequent to completion of articles or pupilage and preferably within a multinational organization/s will be advantageous.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial law as well as consumer protection, company and corporate laws and governance, intellectual property law, data privacy laws and laws related to financial service providers.
  • Knowledge and experience in civil and criminal litigation process and procedure.
  • Solid commercial legal drafting skills.
  • Company Secretarial experience is advantageous.
  • High level of integrity with a desire to do the right thing and maintain ethical standards within applicable laws.
