CLINICAL TRAINING GRANT (CTG)

Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) offers professional health sciences training and education in a range of fields through excellence in teaching, learning, innovative research and community engagement. SMU is situated in Ga- Rankuwa (North of Pretoria) and the following position(s) is/are currently available:

Accountant: Clinical Training Grant (1 Post) (2 year Fixed Term Contract) Ref: 59/2021/MJM/CTG/P9

The incumbent will be responsible for DHET Clinical Training Grant financial administration and support to the line manager and other sub-sections as delegated and managed by the line manager for the purpose of the DHET Grant. The incumbent will be reporting to the DHET CTG Chairperson and the ED: Finance and will furthermore meet the requirements and competencies, and be responsible for the key performance areas listed below.

Requirements

 A three-year financial accounting degree or equivalent
 At least three (3) years’ relevant experience working in financial accounting and/or management accounting
 Experience and knowledge of the Integrated Tertiary Software (ITS) will be a strong recommendation
 Valid driver’s license

 Computer literacy (MS Office, Excel, Presentation, email, internet)

Key Performance Areas

 Ensure that funds approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) are correctly allocated to the different earmarked grants
 Assist the Finance Manager in managing cash flows and compiling financial reports (including deferred revenue and interest calculation) related to each of the earmarked grants for relevant committees and decision-making
 Ensure reconciliation of expenditure against the approved budgets on the earmarked grants on a regular basis
 Assist the Development Grants Office in managing financial processes in relation to the earmarked grants received by the University in line with DHET approved allocations and policy guidelines
 Maintain and record all financial documentation related to the earmarked grants
 Process all income and expenditure associated with earmarked grants, ensure accurate allocation to cost centres, authorisation, and transaction management
 Prepare monthly reports for discussion with the Project Managers
 Respond to grants audit related matters
 Assist the Finance Manager in preparing for external audits and providing all the necessary financial data for review
 Undertake any other relevant accounting/administrative duties delegated by the line manager
 Contribute to the overall development of SMU, and actively promote institutional culture
 Any other duties assigned by the Line Manager
